Hi. About two weeks ago I sowed a packet of ten Pachy namaquanum seeds which I had bought from Mesa gardens. They all germinated within 2-3 days? but since then they've made little or no progress. I know this is a slow growing species but I had hoped for a little more progress by now especially after a 90%-100% success rate with germination. Can anybody help????
Steve.

Look very healthy, what you also have to remember with these is that they are a winter grower so sunniest spot in greenhouse and water when you keep everyone else dry.

Hi Tina. I thought that you should treat winter growers in their first year (and only in their first year) as if they were Summer growers. I was also reluctant to keep Pachypodium seeds for an length of time as they lose their viability so quickly.Tina wrote:Look very healthy, what you also have to remember with these is that they are a winter grower so sunniest spot in greenhouse and water when you keep everyone else dry.

Steve
in just 2 weeks they will just be sitting there making roots, you will have to be more patient!
This is the right time to sow as they are in their normal growing season. If you keep them warm and damp they may keep growing over the summer, but if not they will be starting to grow again in August.
My oldest seedling was sown in 2009, is in a three inch pot, about 3 inches tall and has flowered. They are very slow!
cheers

Re: Pachypodium namaquanum seeds
WHAT !!, I have bigger plants that have never flowered , one must be over 12 " tall, I am seriously jealous3 inches tall and has flowered
They do have nice looking flowers, this was Jeff salisburys plant from 2014.
Some of my seedlings from 2009, never flowered. They did have a repot this year so I can dream for next year.
I was a bit wicked & damaged the growing point on them to make them offset, they didn't like it but if they are multiple headed I will like it.

If its any consolation I have a grafted plant now about 18 inches tall and although it produces a few buds each year they always drop off...
