Got me, never even saw it coming. I usually regard the sides of pots as a safe neutral territory.

I know that it is not good form to laugh but having just repotted something rather similar I did chuckle :lol:
I have two Puya that need potting on which I'm still working the courage up for.

I can't even work up the courage to repot a grafted moon cactus, it gets me every time I go near it :lol:

I have a big Aloe polyphylla to repot. They are very spiteful too.

Used to have an Opuntia Invicta - lost it now - expect not being re-potted so often contributed to its demise - not that it exactly encouraged you to repot it !

Tongs and tweezers, large and small, are extremely helpful in avoiding damage to yourself and plant from spines and potting on.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

I agree. This little tool is very handy. Bit rusty, but that means its a bit stiff so you can hold it easily in one hand while re-potting with the other.
