I just checked my pots of seeds today to find Eriosyce crispa seedlings that are bright pink.
Is this...normal?
Edit: Sounds like they might be albinos that have had too much sunlight

Re: Fluorescent pink seedlings
Bright pink is not good for cactus seedlings, it means they have had too much sun and may not make it. Move to somewhere where the light is good but not bright sunshine all day. Be careful to not let them dry out too much, at this stage of their life, if very small, they need moisture.
Obsessive Crassulaceae lover, especially Aeoniums but also grow, Aloes, Agaves, Haworthias and a select number of Cacti.

Re: Fluorescent pink seedlings
No not 'albinos' it it quite normal for cacti seedlings to go pink or red with too muck light, they might have been slowed down a bit but should recover.Ava wrote:I just checked my pots of seeds today to find Eriosyce crispa seedlings that are bright pink.

Re: Fluorescent pink seedlings
The reason I don't think it is entirely about too much sunlight is that the rest of the seedlings in the pot are a perfectly normal green colour. The shade of pink is also not the reddish kind you get with too much light, it's more fuschia, as if they had been artificially dyed. I also believe these seedlings only came up this morning as I didn't notice them yesterday.

Re: Fluorescent pink seedlings
If they have only just germinated it is perfectly normal in some species.

These seedlings were what I would call Fluorescent pink. See the ones on the right.

Ah, that's the kind of shade I'm seeing, Chris. At least it sounds like they will survive. They're still looking okay, just not green...
