Duh moment with flood tray...

Post by ralphrmartin »

Today I decided to unpot a Gasteria verrucosa that didn't look to well, to find out what was wrong with it. The answer was simple - the duff flowerpot had no holes in the bottom! Given that most of my plants are bottom watered, it's not surprising it was looking rather dry and stressed.

Was it not taking water up from the flood tray quickly enough for your liking?

How long did it take you to find out (years?)?

It was taking no water at all from the flood tray...

I repotted it towards the end of last year, and wondered why it still look shrivelled and dry when most other Gasterias are growing well and flowering. I assumed the rots had rotted off, which puzzled me, as usually this species is as tough as old boots. In fact, the root system was extremely healthy. I expect it will quickly recover.
