Crassula parvisepala

Post by Rich45s »

Hello,

I got a great specimen of this via the board recently.

Having searched for name on board nothings come up. On googling it, it appears to be a name also associated with Crassula Sarocaulis, which compared to my Sacrocaulis doesn’t look similar at all.

Google images give potentially a third type that looks nothing like either of mine, so I’m at a loss.

I’m sure someone here can fill me in. I just want to tidy it up slightly and worried if I hack it about too much ill do some damage to it.

Thanks!

Your plant originally came with this name from Haage's cactus nursery; it's quite different to the C. sarcocaulis plants I have. I wouldn't worry too much about giving it a trim to tidy it up.

But there is also a Crassula alba var. parvisepala, a rather nice looking plant, for example: https://www.anniesannuals.com/plants/view/?id=3575

Does this match your specimen?

Best wishes,

Thanks Ralph,

I’ve logged it as such, great looking plant. More of a ‘willow tree’ looking thing but very fragile, lots of fallen off ‘cuttings’ to attempt to root.

Derek, thanks for chipping in. It was that picture of the red version that confused me, as that looks more like a conventional plant. This is chunky stemmed like an oldish Ovata but with fragile cascading ‘wispy’ branches with green leaves. Shame I missed your talk at Kingston branch last year as I had a dodgy chest. Still keeping one eye on a cheap copy of your Crassula book, as currently they are what is floating my boat.

EDIT: Partly your book. Wouldn’t want to miss someone out! I’m rather new to this old cactus & succulent game

Cheers

No, it's nothing like Crassula alba, but more like a floppy version of C. sarcocaulis.
