(FIXED) Seedling progress

Post by panaMark »

I just wanted to share some pictures of my seedlings. They are coming along nicely I think-- a lot faster than my greenhouse construction, LOL. The first group of seedlings were started towards the end of December and are now out of their bags (mostly) and are on the top shelf above my older plants. The second group were planted in early May. The first batch I used the baggy method. I found baggies effective, but space inefficient and a pain to move. So the second batch is mostly in containers I salvaged (with a flight attendant's help) from Delta airlines meals  . Everything is under artificial lighting for now.

Someday I hope these seedlings are beautiful, big specimen plants in my greenhouse. After taking 30 years off from cactus (kids, career, etc. etc), I am restarting and learning a lot and having fun. Thanks to everyone on the board. (Hope you don't mind so many pictures, but I think baby cacti are delightful.)

First planting from mid-December

Coming along quite quickly, I'd say! Well done.

Growing from seed seems to go well for you.
Always funny to see how others do their sowing.

Mark, how do you get your seedlings to that size so quickly?! Mine were planted same time in bags in a heated Vitapod and are only half the size!

I don't know what it is, since I am so inexperienced. Maybe the combination of heating mats and loooong periods of light - about 18 hours per day when they are first starting. They seem to grow so slow to me since I look at them a couple times a day. Learning patience.
