Marise, you are in the Midlands so why not try out the products of Ashwood Nursery near Stourbridge? They sell their own brand of JI that they claim is made according to the original John Innes recipes or alternatively they sell sterilized loam that you could use to make your own mix. Perhaps members in Birmingham branch have experience of these products, I just saw them there when making a flying visit to this rather famous establishment who have just received the top President's Award for their Hellebore exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show.
