I have quite a decent collection of Ferocactus but I've never had one flower Granted some are still tiny but I do have a handful of sizeable plants but still no flowers. Is there a rough age / size for this genus as to when it will flower?
While i'm here I guess any other Ferocactus tips or pics would be welcomed
I think it's quite species dependent - F. fordii, macrodiscus and latispinus are regarded as being some of those to flower as younger / small plants, maybe 8-10cm across as a possible size for first flowers.
Hot and sunny in the summer is good!

Thankyou both, I suspect mine are way too small yet then I have a rectispinus, latispinus and gracilis in 15cm bowls and the rest descend in size from there......maybe the latispinus might not be to far off from what you say.

I grew a histrix and a wiszleyii v. Herrerae from seed that I sowed in 1975. I had them both for over 35 years and they both reached a good size. Neither of them ever flowered.

Growing a mixed collection of cacti & other succulents; mainly smaller species with a current emphasis on lithops & conophytum.
Sun and heat is probably the key. I have 7cm Fordii's that flowered last year and are in bud now and my stainesii flowers like mad and has already finished for this year but it is more than 20 years old and I am in Portugal.

I have this labelled as Ferocactus glaucescens which it may or may not be. I bought it some time in the early 80's so it must be around thirty five or forty years old, now in a ten inch pot, since I got my plants back four years ago it has flowered twice.
