Nurseries/garden centre recommendations.

Post by IanMDrain »

Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for nurseries or garden centres to visit with decent cacti for sale in Central Southern England. Been to Manor Nursery in Runcton which is probably the best yet that i have come across. Any others to go to? Cheers.

BCSS events are usually the best places to buy the widest range of cacti & succulents at the best prices. Why not join us at the Oxford Branch Show in July and see how well other people can grow them:

Great idea, Derek!

Rather than trying to find Cacti and Succulent nurseries go to a location where they will gather. The Oxford show is also a great opportunity to see very well grown plants from some of the best growers.

A genuine "double whammy"!

Hi Ian, excellent advice from Derek and this is just the time of the year when BCSS shows and sales start to take place. I think that Runcton is near Chichester, so not very far to Portsmouth, Southampton, Littlehampton and Brighton, all places with BCSS branches, I suggest you look at their details on the home page. I'm sure you will soon find many well grown plants for sale and a group of enthusiastic people. Enjoy!

Look on the branch pages on here and maybe contact the secretary as they might be able to let you know where and when open days at personal collections etc

The Cactus Mart's advertised in the Society Calendar of Events usually brings together many dealers in one place as well as the branch shows and dealers are often at some of the Conventions.

Spalding Cactus Mart is one of the best near me, though a long way from you. Unfortunately only held every two years so not one this year, but this was last years dealers lineup:-

Personally I often obtain some plants otherwise hard to obtain at the residential Weekends like The Cactus Explorers, but again that is not held this year.

Of course if you fancy a trip to the near Continent (Belgium) whilst we are still in the EU, ELK is the place to obtain many new plants British dealers do not have.

Hi Ian
Firstly welcome to the BCSS forum and by now you will have a copy or 2 of Cactusworld in there are 3 pages of Nurseries or places to buy plants from.
Check them out on the internet and decide which one is best for you to visit.
All the above advice from other members should give you plenty of leads to follow up.

If you're in the Whitchurch (Shropshire) area, do get in touch and visit. I'll be surprised if you're disappointed.
