Does anyone else think it was a daft idea to nationally publicise this?

Re: Garden News
I'm sure it makes for a nice, sensational story.
I wonder how many of the high bids on eBay and the likes are actually genuine (undoubtedly some are). I gather it's a common practice for some sellers to put in very high bids (using a fake account) on competitors' plants to scare off customers. The winning bid is never paid, but meanwhile it takes the competitor out of the race for a time.

And in the meantime your greenhouse could be raided by opportunistic thieves that now have had a good lead after hearing sensational prices...

Re: Garden News
Hopefully those who are likely to steal plants are not regular readers of this rag!
Journalists are only interested in themselves and the story.

Re: Garden News
Unfortunate article.
Prices of a few thousand are genuine enough, these sort of prices and much more are are regularly attained by Haworthias, with Tissue Culture Labs willing to pay 5 figures or more just to rent a plant.
