Prague botanical gardens (1)

Post by ragamala »

This year's visit to Prague, being in springtime (I'm normally there in winter or late autumn if at all) found me concentrating on the City's gardens and parks.

There are two botanical gardens of note, the first being the city botanical gardens a little way to the north of Prague centre.

The gardens boast a North American arid area section, with outdoor plantings including cacti. There are many Opuntias planted, and Cylindropuntias, but with few species represented. Some are faring better than others, the younger plants look healthy, some of the older Cylindropuntias in particular are on their way home.

Also outside for the summer were some potted plants, including some decent Echinocactus grusonii and Agave victoriae-reginae and these, I assume protected indoors in the winter.

There was also one rather "under construction" greenhouse (not the main gardens greenhouse Fata Morgana which focuses on hot and humid plantings).
