The second botanical garden, the Charles University B.G., is a short distance south of Prague centre and just a few minutes away by tram.

Far smaller than the City B.G. it nevertheless has perhaps more of interest for succulent enthusiasts as it contains a good-sized green house area with well-labelled plants, with a good mix of cacti and other succulents. Interesting to see was how many of the clustering plants had grown to fit the space allotted to them between the stone placements, with clumps developing naturally to square or triangular shaped clumps rather than the round ones we are used to in pot culture. Many of the plantings are in internal glass booths, whether to provide more controlled environment or keep prying fingers away I couldn't say, but there are some splendid well-grown plants there, it was a revelation for a "public" collection.

One section of the greenhouse was cordoned off, containing many potted younger plants, many in flower, presumably because they were getting ready for their major cactus exhibition from today 2nd of June until the 17th.
