A Good Day for Avonias

Post by Ali Baba »

It was 38C in my greenhouse at 12 noon today despite all vents and doors being open and 3 fans running.
Not so nice for the orchids, but the Avonias seemed to like it.

You can almost set your watch by them...

At noon, A. harveyi and A. albissima

A. quinaria ssp alstonii and A. dinteri are snoozing

At 2pm harveyi and albissima are closed for the day, but A. dinteri is open for business

At 4pm A. quinaria ssp alstonii finally opens

Finally (this one was taken on another hot day, 21st May) at 5pm, A. papyracea

Fun to watch them all come out in sequence. Mine either don't all flower on the same day, or I don't have the patience to catch them.
