If it's an Oroya, you're doing better than I am! My buds dried up yet again... I've never managed to flower an Oroya.

It's oroya subocculta . I brought it from Southfields in 2012 and this is the first time it's flowered . I can only think that it was the very cold winter that has brought it on.

The Oroya that regularly flowers for me came under the name O. gibbosa years ago and I have repropagated it from my own seed. It can start flowering at 3 - 4cm diameter. It is supposedly a synonym of O. peruviana, but plants under that name, O. neoperuviana or O. borchersii just get large and never flower. It is another example of a taxon which needs recognition from a gardener's point of view, but just gets lumped by people practicing botany. It is likely that AntonyC's plant is the same element of the genus.
