Amorphorphallus konjac

Post by Eric Williams »

Had a large tuber (about 8 inches dia.) last year so expected a flower this season. Instead I had one large central growth together with six what I call offsets. Would I have been better off to allow one main stalk grow ? Cheers

Hard to say. Mine flowered once (at about 6 inches across), but most years it just puts up a leaf.

Mine is also about 6 inches diameter and has never flowered, it's just sprung to life so I'm hoping this will be the year. Are the "offsets" independent tubers? If so, apart from taking nutrient from the compost, I guess they shouldn't affect the main tuber. I don't know about those little sprouty leg like growths which shoot out of the main tuber body though.

Hi Purzo, it only had one growing point when started into growth. Now I have one main centre growth and 5 seperate growths nearly the same size. Will send pic ASAP. Cheers

When mine flowered, the flower came out quite a while before the leaf. If you can see the leaf coming out, it won't flower.
