Orostachys iwarenge

Post by KeithG »

A couple of months ago I bought myself an Orostachys iwarenge. It's proving to be a rampant grower and I really like it...........

Has anyone else grown this plant, or indeed is anyone growing it. I'm after tips for overwintering it. So much on the web is contradictory so I thought that I'd ask the experts.

I give mine a dash of water once a month or so in winter, just to keep it ticking over.

5C seems sufficient.

Most species of Orostachys are cold-hardy in the UK.

Indeed - they come from China and Japan, where it can be quite a way below zero in winter. I've occasionally seen them on old roofs there, a bit like houseleeks (wild, not planted).

Thanks for the replies.
Ralph - is that what your greenhouse sits at or do you have a choice of greenhouses and put it into the warmer one?

Different areas of my greenhouse are at different temperatures, but most of my Crassulaceae are in the 5C zone, as it is "tidier" to keep the related plants together.
