Opened up last night about 10pm, got up this morning and the flower had gone over already. Tiny little plant two years from seed. Photo taken as best I could with a strong lamp and the flash.

The flowers are beautiful, but I find the perfume unpleasant.
Probably because I'm not the pollinator that needs attracting!

Luckily they are self fertile so set plenty of viable seed. That is an advantage since they are often not long lived plants, 5 years for most is doing well, so it is advisable to have a few seedling replacements coming along. Mine has just expired, but left a couple of fruits full of viable seeds.

Re: Setiechinopsis mirabilis
I wonder if the two are related. My plants seem to do better now that I cut or twist the dead flower off a few days after it's wilted.
