Forget mealy bugs and spider mites - watch out for caterpillars!
I was lucky to get to this one last week before it finished its job of chomping through the flower on this A asterias!

Disgusting things, leaving a trail of damage and mess. But without them we wouldn't have any butterflies.

Once had one eat the bottom half of a notocactus roseoluteus seedling.
Re: A new pest in our greenhouses
This has been the worst year that I've had for Tortrix moth caterpillars. As I grow a lot of Salvia this is especially bad news as they love the tender tips where the inflorescence starts to form.
I allowed a load of Nasturtium to self seed by the greenhouse door as they're a favourite of the cabbage white and yet there has not been one in sight this year! So I now have a load of Nasturtium I didn't really need (although they are also useful for controlling black fly).
