I've got some Avonia herrerae on the go that came from Aiko in 2016. They have been in a 1/4 tray for quite a while and I've been itching to pot them on into sales pots for the branch meetings. I am cautious as I think they may be forming tuberous roots ( ). Anyway this morning pottering around I found this. I'll have to keep my eye on it to see if it opens any more during the day.

Hi Chris,
If you have one spare, I would love one. PM me if interested. Or swap if you want to.
Thanks Jane

Re: Avonia herrerae (seedlings & flower)
I'll take some pictures of the full tray to see if anyone thinks they are big enough to pot up into pots (or not). I am always a bit wary about moving succulents as most of my plants are cacti. Always worried they are going to stop growing or die.JaneO wrote:Hi Chris,

I am right in thinking there should be a tuber under the soil, aren't I?

Re: Avonia herrerae (seedlings & flower)
I should have some more seeds available soon on my free seed list. I already have harvested some seeds of Avonia herrerae, but am waiting for an update of the list until autumn so I can include many other species, and when I have time to organise posting the seeds again.JaneO wrote:Hi Chris,

Looking at my list of seeds, Aiko, I think I got something from the ones in bold. The ones underlined have been in my charity sales tray and have raised a modest amount for the charities I support.Aiko wrote:I should have some more seeds available soon on my free seed list. I've still got some seed left, but don't know if it is viable or not.
I got 3 Pseudobombax ellipticum going, one died and one is still small, the other has taken off and has quite a big tuber/caudex/bulb-shaped-base and there were loads of Setiechinopsis, now at flowering size and Rhombophyllum rhomboideum did really well too.
Most of my collection is cacti, but it has been really interesting growing something different.
ETA I've found a Neobuxbaumia polylopha too.

Are these big (& safe) enough to pot on?

Re: Avonia herrerae (seedlings & flower)
They have just been watered. When they have dried out a bit I'll have a look to see if I think they can be potted on. If so, I'll send a PM.JaneO wrote:Chris,

Re: Avonia herrerae (seedlings & flower)
Definitely large enough to pot on Chris. If memory serves - it's a long time since I grew these - there will be a swollen base but not what I'd call a tuber. They don't grow like quinaria for example.
