Neem spray query

Post by MikeT »

Can Neem emulsion be used through a spray? Assuming the emulsion is made up with Neem, washing up liquid (detergent) and water, does it clog up the mesh filter in the spray or not?

Anyone tried this?

Mike I haven't used it in a spray as I always water it on but there is no reason why it shouldn't work. It is sold in spray bottles https://www.theneemteam.co.uk/pet-sprays.html

Luke warm water plus neem/detergent in one of those pressure sprayers works a treat. One bottle's worth of water will do a 12x6 greenhouse quite easily.

You can have it as a fine mist, or if there are plants that need a good soaking, just loosen the nozzle slightly and give them a proper soaking. Handy to reach plants at the back of the greenhouse from the door too.

It WILL clog the works up if allowed to get too cold.

At least there's not much risk of this just at the moment...

I use 5ml of neem with 2ml horticultural soap per 1 litre water. It all goes in the sprayer and hasn't clogged it yet. To be sure I wash the sprayer out afterwards, like I do with everything that goes in there.

Not sure what you are spraying, but a word of caution. Neam made a real mess of my echeverias and aeoniums. I know of people on the internet who have killed a large proportion of their collections. I was lucky. My plants were badly damaged but most of them recovered within 12 months.
I used neam as directed, quite a weak solution with soap and luke warm water.

I used Neem on my C & S last year, but avoided getting it on waxy leaved Echeverias. I used it as a drench, covering the plant and watering the compost with the mix. Aeoniums seemed OK, as did the non-waxy leaved Echeverias. It does seem to have worked on mealies, the exception being the Echeverias, which were only watered with it. That does seem to suggest that it's more effective by contact than as a systemic.

The spray was for aubergine plants with RSM on my allotment. It had to be a spray to cover the large leaf surfaces well enough, and I was a bit concerned in case the Neem congealed in the sprayer. After the reassurance from here, I used it, and the sprayer is fine. Waiting to assess the aubergines/RSM...

I used 5ml solution on 2L of water. I added soap as much so no floating oil was clearly visible. Sprayed all my collection including seedlings. But my wifwe flowers got some burns when she sprayed. next time I would use lower concentration.
