I didn't expect it....she has no respect on me at all,just die suddenly whatever she want.
The leaves are growing and the caudex is growing too.
AND THEN SHE ROT.BIG ONE NO LESS.
Burrow caudex for 3/5, if i burrow it shallower i may have chance to spot it earlier.
the main reason is she still growing normally and vigorously . so i pay very little attenction to her.

Front side any one will think she is healthy and well.
EXCEPT A SMALL AREA OF DARKEN LEAF AND FALLEN LEAF.



dig it up. pull it and 2/5 of caudex came off,all mess up.

The center is hollow,it seems like the rot is originated from the cavity.



Another side.The deep color rigen of rotten is connect to cavity.
Did the infection lurk in cavity and suddenly reactivated and eat the way out?
I will never know.



The problem is the color of flash is weird,i can't tell whether it's infected or still healthy. they look suspiciously ambiguous.
Top one is cut from the mid point should be healthy.
Botten one is roten.
But the middle one i can;t sure is it infected or still healthy.

so i am left with half of caudex and Hundreds of small stem segment.
use them for cuttling hope they will root and grow.

Are they normally hollow? I've never cut one in half to check.

That's upsetting but thank you for the photo's quite interesting, have you rooted the tips before ?, I may have some avonia quinaria seed spare .
These plants can be a nightmare I just repotted a lovely Euphorbia growing really well but rotten at the roots it just didn't know or show it was dead

What a shame.
I would think it odd for rot to start within a caudex - what would be the source of the fungus. I wonder whether this a is a bacterial 'rot' (sometime the smell is an indicator), with the bacteria already within the plant but 'gaining the upper hand' after some kind of stress. Was the caudex split at all?
