I don't remember quite how long I have had this Copiapoa krainziana, 20 years? Maybe more. It sits at the back of a bench under an overhanging shelf which affords a little shade (they are prone to scorch in full sun), and only gets watered when I remember. So I was quite surprised to see it in flower after all these years! Not exactly spectacular, but it does feel like some sort of achievement. Size-wise, it's about the size of a large grapefruit, with a smaller side growth, and is the stiff-spined form.

Well done Diane, quite an achievement. I have had mine maybe 30 years from a small head, it's now a clump in a 12" bowl, it has never flowered. I've always thought they are difficult to flower in cultivation.

That's what I thought, Jean, which is why I was surprised!

I guess t he hot weather has done the trick. Although copiapoas are not always happy in full sun, they do appreciate heat. Quite an achievement after all this time.
