Nurseries still operating in the UK

Post by Chris in Leeds »

Hi everyone I was wondering what cactus nurseries are still operating in the Uk
I think Abbey Brook and Southfields are and have never heared any news on what has or is happening to Eau Brink
Does Kent and Connoisseurs still operate
I am asking as I have some time off soon and might go to one or two if open still
Any help is appreciated thanks

Both Kent and Connoisseurs are still going. Kent is always worth a visit but Connoisseurs is looking in need of some TLC of late.
Joined Havering branch 2006, although have been growing on and off since the age of ten!
Have a large balanced collection of both cacti and succulents but enjoy growing cristate, monstrose and generally anything a bit weird!

If you fancy a trip as far as Devon Ralph Northcott. He sells nice plants. You are right Chris the number of nurseries seems to be dwindling and quite a few listed on the BCSS website are running down. The list of botanical gardens with cactus / succulents now listed on the website is interesting if you want to look and not buy.

ELK, for the serious hunter?

Abbey Brook in Matlock are still operating but down to one sales greenhouse and one for viewing only. Opening times are on their website http://www.abbeybrookcacti.com/. You can enter and leave through the new development (Poppyfields Close?) in front of their establishment, in fact last I heard they were recommending this access route due to roadworks on the back road. I emailed them a few weeks ago about availability of some plants but never got a reply so I'd be inclined to ring ahead to check they really are open at any particular time.

Also William's Cactus and Oak Dene Nurseries are a bit closer to you in Pontefract and Royston respectively. Visits to William's is by appointment and I believe Oak Dene have an open day on the 25th or 26th of this month (sorry I can't remember which) although there don't appear to be any up to date details on their website.
Cheers

The Sheffield Branch 2018 programme has Sunday 26th for Oakdene Open Day, so must be correct
Oakdene is open daily except Wednesdays, so you don't need to wait for an Open Day.
William's Cactus website has the phone number, just ring Craig and you should be able to arrange a time to visit

That'd be Southfields then, on your way to Kings Lynn.

Yes that's what I thought and why I asked if anyone knew what happened to Dereks collection and Eau Brink as I have in the past gone to Southfields Eau Brink and plant lovers in a day
