I planted it in 2004, when it was just a baby at 9ft tall... it is in a raised bed at the base of the south facing house wall, so pretty much the best microclimate I could give it. My garden went down to -8C in winter 09/10, although probably only -7C for that bed, 2ft of wet snow, and it didn't get above freezing for 2 weeks day and night. Not ever been protected until the last 2 winters in as much as I construct half a polytunnel over the bed in which it lives and the top pokes out through a hole. The cover is for other plants n that bed, not for this one.

Some snow at the end of Feb this year.

Interesting to read, Paul! Might still be a bit on the cold side during winter in southern Norway, but it would be fun to try!
