Re: Wisley Garden today
Oh, they're beautiful. Thanks for the pics!
First it was orchids, then, since c.2001, cacti and succulents. I'm into South African plants, mainly conos, lithops and haworthias, with a few cacti, especially 'posh' mamms, turbs and other smalls. Now it’s stapeliads as well...

Very nice, Jean.
Gorgeous colour of the agave and you must have photographed the gasteria just for me.
Thanks,

Thanks all. Yes the Agave is superb, but the Gasteria is great too, thought you might like it Tony! Actually I didn't think the Cacti and Succulents looked as good as usual, quite a few looked marked or damaged, these were the two best plants. However, the Alpine House is always worth visiting and certainly brightened up a rather dull day.

They look to have some interesting bulbs. I went to Harlow Carr the other week and they had a few nice pots of Polyxena but nowhere near as big as those.

While on sabbatical at Writtle College years ago my favorite house was the alpine house. Loved the way they sank the pots into the sandy grit.
Actually I cant think of anywhere at Wisley that was not my favorite, we made it there almost once a month from September to June to see the garden seasonally.
Fond memories, thanks for posting.

Re: Wisley Garden today
Peter, I think that the Alpine House has changed very little over the years, thank goodness, as it is always delightful. Wisley is certainly a special place and, when I worked there for 13 years, I was able to watch everything closely on my lunchtime walks. In retirement, I still visit about once a month. Glad that you enjoyed the memories.

I've got a spare bulb of Lachenalia pygmaea which had crept into my pot of Polyxena ensifolia, if anyone wants to do a swap...

I don't think I have anything to swap, but I am a big fan of Lachenalia, but I am also a long ways away.
