wrong seeds

Post by Tina »

Hi all,
I sowed some seed back in March this year, supposedly astro caput medusae, it clearly isn't that but could these be obregonia denegrii seedlings , anyone confirm ?.
I will probably do better growing these anyway but not sure what I will do with 100 of them  , with the astro caput medusae they would have probably all died anyway.

Could indeed be Obregonia. But maybe also Leuchtenbergia?

Leuchtenbergia
hmm that was my other worry. I don't like that plant so that's a lot of raffle prizes

They look like Obregonia to me, Tina.

That's good, another mystery solved (tu) I should check the bags more often  .

I do water my larger plants a bit more generously but a wet box , although he is in south Australia not sure Milton Keynes has a comparable climate.

For completeness, here's a Leuchtenbergia (from the seed pool, ta!) - quite long skinny tentacles from an early age, and long spines too.Image
and also Astrophytum c-m, also from the seed pool; even longer, skinnier tentacles! 6 survivors (plus 1 gone blind) from 8 seeds. So, far, so good!

Thanks Tina. I suspect the next 12 months may be trickier.
Yes, I use lights. My hi-tech system is a 12w household LED bulb, on a 16 hour timer, with a reptile heating mat. It seems to work well for a small intensive growing area, 30x40cm.
