blotchy Haemanthus leaves - another virus?

Post by KathyM »

I was given a large Haemanthus albiflos plant to divide and bring to the next branch meeting, however, I'm concerned that a few of the bulbs have blotchy leaves. Does anyone know what has caused this? The leaves underneath the ones in the photos are plain green.

I searched for pictures of Haemanthus with a virus and I think the pattern is similar to this one posted on a forum: http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=7168.0 This is one of my plants with the most visible blotches:

Looks like one of the mosaic viruses, sorry 😐. Quite easily spread from plant to plant by insects and cutting implements

Thank you. Hopefully I've spotted it before it spread to anything else, it hadn't been in my greenhouse long. And I'm glad I realised before I handed out virus infected plants to everyone!
