Jim_Mercer wrote: Tue Dec 04, 2018 4:05 pm Has something changed? Just found today that hovering over the file name that forum puts at bottom of image now gives message user-assigned image link and when clicked does take you to full sized image

Yes, you've cracked it, Jim. When you get the cursor in the exactly correct position the filename allocated by the website expands. Clicking on it produces an enlarged image which can itself be further enlarged with another click of the mouse.

Yes this is great! It even rotates pictures that have posted sideways or upside down so that they are displayed correctly.

It's because we're using ancient software.

Essentially, you need to:
i) shrink the size of your image file to (I think) less than 250kB
ii) scroll down (past the button to submit your post) and click where it says 'attachment'
iii) click 'add files', find your image and 'open'
iv) put the cursor where you want the image to appear in the post and click 'place inline'

When it doesn't work it's usually because the image is too large.

Phil(_SK :) ), I think Bill has made some progress regarding picture file size, I've uploaded 2.3 Mb pic today (d. horstii topic...)

Forum software has resized it approximately 4 times (was 2851x2520 pixels, now is 700 x 600something pixels).

Great! I'm so used to shrinking photos I never think to test the forum with larger ones.

Yes, the permitted size is now huge (but I don't know what!) eg this one I uploaded on another thread the other day is 2.62 Mb https://forum.bcss.org.uk/download/file ... &mode=view
This link takes you straight to the picture. Click once more for full size.

Thanks for upping the permitted size - been a real pain taking photos on my phone to upload as I have to take them from far away and crop the photo with the limited options and software I have on my phone!

While the maximum file size in terms of bytes is now large enough for most people there is also a limit on the number of pixels so anyone whose camera/smartphone has one of the latest sensors may still have to reduce the number of pixels before the forum software will upload image. https://www.forum.bcss.org.uk/viewtopic ... 91#p257056

Edit

Just done a little test with a 32MPp camera. Image at full resolution and maximum quality fails to upload - files size was 16MB, reducing quality (hence reducing file size) does upload - files was 3.2 MB. Reducing pixels to about 10MP but increasing quality gave a 5.4MB file which did upload
