Gymno ID

Post by metropolitano » Thu Nov 29, 2018 12:30 am

Good afternoon
I ask for help to identify this cactus.
I think is a Gymno marsonerii, but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance.

Hard to tell. Well for me anyway.

That strong central spine is a bit unusual. I think we'll need to see it flower.

Keep it cool and dry over winter and hopefully it will oblige in spring.

The rough spination speaks for Gymnocalycium horridispinum. It is not G. marsoneri.

G. achirasense is closely related to G. horridispinum, and it is classified by some authors as a subspecies = G. horridispinum subsp. achirasense (and I agree).
