Lobivias described since Lobivia85

Post by Nick_G »

Does anyone know of any Lobivia species described since Rausch's Lobivia 85?

You could wade through http://www.ipni.org/ipni/advPlantNameSe ... lantsearch but it won't filter out the 'Rausch 85' names by setting the date later.
Ones that stand out are L. acchaensis 2006 (probably just a form of L. backebergii ssp wrightiana), bonnieae 1999 (--> Reicheocactus), hoevenii 2009 (a form of Acanthocalycium thionanthum, I think), krahn-juckeri 2009 and its subspecies echinopsoides 2017 (elevated to species, but as Echinopsis, E. torrefluminensis in Cactus Explorer 22), kuehhasii 2009 (Acanthocalycium thionanthum again). Varieties? L. pugionacantha v alberi 2014.
There are some transfers in, mostly by Schlumpberger, following his cpDNA study (ancistrophora, bridgesii, mamillosa, subdenudata, etc.) and at least one other elevation L. minutiflora (from L. chrysochete v. minutiflora).
Phil Crewe, BCSS 38143. Mostly S. American cacti, esp. Lobivia, Sulcorebutia and little Opuntia

I presume you dont want a list of the Mediolobivias too? - Rausch included those in Lobivia 85.

Well, why not? If old Walter considered them Lobivias who am I to argue?

What makes a Lobivia a Lobivia or a Rebutia a Rebutia? Floral characteristics, fruit, seed or what?

DNA, of course...

Mediolobivias are Aylosteras, not Rebutias...

I'll send you a paper with recent thinking on them.

The answer is valid, even if current implementation of the idea could be improved...

Looks like John Donald tried to answer this question in the BCSS Journal in 1977. Unfortunately only the first page of the article is available here without subscribing . https://www.jstor.org/stable/42787192?s ... b_contents

Anyone got the journal and can summarise for me?
