Mammillaria ID help please

Post by rca »

Hello!

I've been trying to identify a mammillaria and getting nowhere! I think I must be missing something entirely obvious. Help would be much appeeciated.

It is 8cm tall, has 4-6mm tubercles, has many fine white radial spines and two longer central spines one upper one lower, white fading to deep brown. The lower central spine (10-14mm) is twice the length of the upper (5-7mm). Apologies if I've used the wrong words there or the id turns out to be obvious!

Many thanks
Rachel

It may be a Coryphantha at a guess.
Coryphantha cornifera is very variable.

For me it is a Mammillaria. Strong tuberles, no evidence of a groove on the top and I think you csn see some hairs in between the tubercles, in the axils.
I won't guess the species.

A lush M parkinsonii perhaps? See a more hard grown version (ML 71) in my collection.
