No Tony. It seems that BCSS needs to look at why so many of us are suffering from this problem. I am not going to change my email account (in this case yahoo.com) because one supplier of emails doesn't seem able to get its house in order. This is not a new problem and I am disappointed it hasn't been resolved sooner.

You need to subscribe to the newsletter - link should take you to page where you can enter your email address and also see previous issues

oh, were should I have seen that I need to subscribe? I can't say I was aware there was an e newsletter. I would have expected this to be part of the process of joining as an opt in if not done automatically when applying / paying for membership. Thanks.

I did not say anything about changing your email account.
What I said is that people might need a better eMail Client, ie the way in which they choose to view or download their emails eg Outlook amongst many others.

These issues, which are indeed poor advertising for the Society, are being investigated. I have asked our Internet Manager (Tony Mace) and Website Administrator (Bill Hildyard) to look into the spam problem and our Membership Secretary (Tony Morris) to pass new members' email details to eNews for inclusion in its distribution.

In the meantime, I will continue to advise of new editions via this forum.

I have both Outlook and gmail in which to see emails and it goes to spam in both of them!
First it was orchids, then, since c.2001, cacti and succulents. I'm into South African plants, mainly conos, lithops and haworthias, with a few cacti, especially 'posh' mamms, turbs and other smalls. Now it’s stapeliads as well...

I occasionally work for another organization which used to use the site software which the BCSS use.
They no longer use it for reasons similar to ones described above. Since we (in the other organization) are sharing ideas (as here) and software files and image files on tight deadlines we cannot afford to miss a posting or have an e-mail drop into the abyss.
One would hope that when the new site is up-and-running and perhaps hosts the eNews and other important materials, that these current trials and tribulations will be merely "history".

I have used yahoo mail direct access successfully and happily for many years. I have no wish to access my mail through a pop or a forwarded email account through Outlook or any other client. The contortions are too great, either to not have spam forwarded or to have it forwarded prefixed by spam. Life is too short. In any event it is yahoo which determines spam/not spam, before forwarding or allowing pop access. My present access has records appropriately stored on yahoo "cloud" covering many years and many thousands of emails.

I have tried marking newsletters as not spam, to no avail. I have done all I can reasonably be expected to do.

I use Thunderbird for my other specialised email accounts, but no way will I change, even if it were feasible, my main email account from yahoo mail.

Sorry. I would rather lose the newsletter.

All

I am very sorry that some people have had issues with the enews dropping into their spam folder.

I will offer a solution in a minute but will just say. We are an organisation run by volunteers and all the officers put in lots of their spare time trying to do nice things for the members. The trustees have been away this weekend at an all day meeting to try and do nice things for the members and to continue to run this society. Some of use spent the whole of today as well with our web site developers getting ready for the new website which will be coming as soon as possible. My family have not seen me since Friday and since walking through the door I have been looking at BCSS emails so comments like go and fix it (or words to that effect) doesn't help. I am not looking for sympathy but ..................

However, we are trying very hard to find a solution but in the interim, If you log into the website of your email provider and then into your account you will see the spam folder. If you find the offending enews in this folder marking it as "not spam" will only affect the message in question and will not affect future emails. You need to find the option for "whitelist" (varies from provider to provider) and add the details into this option. This will override any inbuilt algorithm and tell the email system that you indeed want this message. This really should work.

Finally, if any of you have a spare hour or two during the week the trustees are desperate for help and you would be doing your bit for the society. Please contact me if you have any IT, editing, design or social media skills or just want to help as we would really like to hear from you :-)

Now for my cup of tea.

Arn't the plants really showing signs that spring is not far away now - Lets look forward to a great summer.

Kind regards

Ian
