Saw this on the Facebook page recently.
If it has been sprayed how come the plant isn't red? Or the areoles either.
Couldn't find any reference to a red spined grusonii?
Older spines are white as you'd expect.
Was something added to the soil?
Any ideas?

Re: A Curiosity
There's a lot of red in that background grey and the planter is very red - a touch of the lighting and PhotoShop?
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Re: A Curiosity
I saw these in a garden centre, in several different colours, they are sprayed but I have no idea how they do it.

Re: A Curiosity
Spines absorb it, then the overspray washes off the plant. Or maybe its done with magnets ...

Re: A Curiosity
in my opinion they put water or an oily substance on the epidermis and they spray the paint which is not deposited on this epidermis
Re: A Curiosity
Cactus skin has teflon qualities I guess. A bit similar to dying hair really: the hair but the skin isn't died.
