Nice plant is it early yo flower ?, now I'm going to question identity, please don't take it wrong. It looks very like Alonsoi or is that normal, I'm no turbinicarpus expert , I only have 5 and 3 of those are Alonsoi

Re: Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. macrochele
Yes, I think this one is a bit early and haven't plump up yet from the first watering. I am no expert my self and have only flowering T. swobodae, T. schmiedickeanus ssp. macrochele and T. schmiedickeanus ssp. gracilis. But have seedlings of T. pseudopectinatus and T. lophophoroides
The whole T. schmiedickeanus group have very different look and flower color.
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. andersonii
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. bonatzii
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. dickisoniae
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. flaviflorus
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. gracilis
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. jauernigii
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. klinkerianus
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. macrochele
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. rioverdensis
- T. schmiedickeanus ssp. schwarzii

Re: Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. macrochele
Nearly all of my Turbinicarpus have been in flower for a week now, Tina, although admittedly, Sweden is a little further North than I am...

Re: Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. macrochele
Sorry Christer, but I think Tina is on to something here. The plant in the photo is definitely not T.macrochele, but as Tony pointed out it isn't T.alosoi either.
I would say it is most definitely a hybrid, probably involving alonsoi, maybe macrochele x alonsoi, if you are sure the seed came from macrochele originally?

This one is not from seed by me. I bought it from Mats Winberg (SuccSeed) and was labeled by him. The label can be wrongRob wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:21 pm Sorry Christer, but I think Tina is on to something here.
