Plumeria in bloom

Post by KarlR »

Plumeria in bloom in my office

This one is a cutting from Zanzibar. Plumeria's one of my favourite plants - love seeing them in bloom whenever we visit the in-laws in Tanzania. I have several cuttings but none of them have flowered before, so it was a nice surprise to discover that this one was in bud.

Cheers!

Not very large. It's a branch from a larger tree. Probably around 30-40 cm I'd guess.

I'm impressed to see a flower on such a small one. The ones I saw full of flowers were about 3 to 4m high in the tropics. Many have a super perfume too, as well as nice flowers. But I have found them to require plenty of winter heat.

My in-laws have several in their garden, and the smallest one - about 2m tall but only a few branches - was in flower last summer. But yeah, usually it's the large trees you see in bloom.

I suppose it could be on account of it being a cutting from a mature tree.

The flowers smelled wonderful. Tones of vanilla and a rose-like aroma.
