Limescale on plastic pots

Post by Geoff Lovell »

Any suggestions for a non abrasive common or garden chemical to remove lime scale from plastic pots due to a hard water area.
Thanks.

Proprietary bathroom and ceramic tile cleaner ... again use with care.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Limescale dissolves in acid, so half fill a bucket with water and add a bottle of vinegar. Leave the pots in there overnight and let us know if that works ;)

But not if the cacti are still in the pot? ;-)

I assumed that most people don't wash pots with the cactus still in :D

Citric acid is another cheap and easily obtainable acid and like vinegar harmless in use, dissolve a half cup full of powder in a small bucket of hand hot water and leave the pots to soak.

I use "12% Acetic acid" (Ättiksprit) they sell in the food store to acid my water and remove lime from my water boiler :geek:
I use 1‰ in my water to my plants, but pure in my water boiler :)
