Molar clay cat litter - alternative source to Tesco

Post by Julie A »

I thought I would post this outside of my previous thread. Thanks for all the feedback.

In terms of molar clay cat litter, I've spoken to Tesco Customer services and it's official, their own brand low dust cat litter has been discontinued.

After researching online,I have found an alternative which is said to be very good:
https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets ... cat-litter

Apparently, it has been well tried and tested cetain members of the Northern Ireland Cactus and Succulent Society, who have found it to be excellent both as purlite/grit alternative and as top dressing.

Currently £12.50 for 30L at Pets At Home, which is the best deal I could find.

Sanicat Pink has been mentioned before. Isn't it a different size? Bigger granules than Tesco's?

Yes, a good deal bigger. Same stuff, though. I've been using it in potting mixes fro larger plants for a few years now, ever since it was flagged up on here.

To big for smaller plants then, do you think Paul? If so, what do you use with the little guys?

Well, I guess the same as everyone else I used it in combination with the smaller Tesco stuff when potting smaller plants. But also with John Innes compost plus sharp sand. Personally I would prefer the Sanicat to be mixed with something that had a smaller lump size as I feel it is a bit big to use on its own.

Currently switched to LECA, mainly because I had a spare cubic metre of it, as you do.

See this viewtopic.php?f=1&t=166799&hilit=oil+spill for earlier discussion on the Forum and referene to oil-spill granules.

Bonsai suppliers often stock bags of horticulatural moler.

I've repotted a lot of my Stapeliads into Sophisticat and they seem very happy so far. Only problem is that they drain through so much and soak everything below!
