Notocactus ? or Parodia
or non of the above !
I think years ago we had flowering success with Notocactus and perhaps we should be looking to get some more.
So I did a trawl through my millions of digital photos
(! isnt it amazing how many pics you take with these new-fangled things compared to film !!)
and found these two candidates from 2008.
The yellow one looks possible, any guesses to ID ?
and whilst googling images found some that look like the red one, but maybe mistaken googles ?
Or perhaps both are Notocactus, what think ?
And then, wikipedia informs me that Notocactus are no more
and that they should all be Parodia, arghhh, a new genus to me but apparently been causing consternation since the '80s.
Are they Notocactus ?

Notocactus submammulosus (Parodia submammulosa) and probably N. haselbergii (P. haselbergii)

Re: Are they Notocactus ?
I think this one's P. penicillata.

Re: Are they Notocactus ?
The bottom one is definitely not Notocactus haselbergii, but is a Parodia (of the non-Notocactus kind).

Re: Are they Notocactus ?
Thanks y'alls
> "Parodia (of the non-Notocactus kind)"
Is there anywhere a dummies guide to the distinguishing of Notocactus kind from the not kind !?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parodia#Species
I am slowly working my way through googling all those not in the Group notocactus, lots are yellow flowered but so far, in red, as well as P. penicillata :-
I have found P. nivosa which may be another possible ?
Interesting stuff.

Re: Are they Notocactus ?
You need Bradleya 2018 - a very comprehensive article on Parodia in the broad sense with photos of every species accepted by the authors. Interesting to read how threatened by agriculture some of them are.
Re: Are they Notocactus ?
Although we should all encourage everyone to support Bradleya it's also available as a download on the authors' website www.cactusinhabitat.org. A very interesting site if south american cacti are your thing.

Re: Are they Notocactus ?
There is also a new book by that well known author J Pilbeam entitled ‘ Parodia and Notocactus (the happy couple) ‘ giving his take on the two groups.
