Hi Ralph, When you say good light I presume you use artificial light? If so what sort of lighting?

No, not artificial lighting - but an open aspect with all the sun afforded by a Welsh winter.

In Cardiff, I was dumb enough to have my greenhouse in a North facing garden, where the sun didn't reach it in winter. Here, the greenhouse is more or less open to the South, so it is as well lit as possible, given all the structure of the greenhouse casting shadows, glass, etc.

As the temperature is quite low, they don't grow very quickly (but they do grow, slowly), and I think the main benefits are that they have a set of working roots when Spring comes around, and are not too dehydrated and stressed.
