I've had it and germinated it but it hasn't lasted. I fancy your conditions are more to it's liking.

I buy it from my friend.He grow it in door and fluorescent lights.
I am not sure about his detail conduction.

Day/night temperature here now is 35/28 C 40/27C in my greenhouse.
Humidity is around 50~80.
From taiwan. hot humid subtropical island.
Pachypodium grow like weed here.
(not really, but u get the idea hot sunny rainy)

Thanks Phil - that essentially is in agreement with the version I was given. The correct name of the mountains is Cumbres Calchaquíes. The article points out they are about 100km long, and lack roads - so it is a pretty major project to go searching there...

Melocactus smithii. It is not rare but no one seems to have it. Been fortunate to have had some seeds sent to me from Guyana.
