Bought this today from B&Q. I thought it was Titanopsis at first because of the leaf spots, but the shape is different. There was a remnant of a yellow flower too. Is it a mesemb of some sort?
Or Tylecodon?

Re: Unknown succulent
Yes, definitely a mesemb, I'm not sure which one, possibly Cheiridopsis. Hopefully someone more expert than me can ID it.

Re: Unknown succulent
Thanks guys, it certainly does look like Aloinopsis.
Google led me to this on a site (World of Succulents)
It said this:
"Aloinopsis is probably dormant in summer, so it is usually recommended not to water much in summer. Don’t be surprised if they doesn’t grow at that time, but although Aloinopsis are better treated as winter growers they will grow anyway in summer, if given water."
Is this true?

Re: Unknown succulent
May or may not help, but just to show you how difficult it can be to differentiate between the species. The baby plants have such variation within the same seed pod.
Hope this helps.
From the top left to right: Aloinopss orpenii (sulking because I sprayed it, and is looking more like a Nananthus), Aloinopsis villetii, Aloinopsis setifera. Bottom left to right: Nananthus aloides, Aloinopsis rubrolineata, Aloinopsis rosulate. I water all year round, but I keep them cooler in summer with morning and late afternoon sun only.
A closeup of Aloinopsis orpenii - looks a suspect label.

Active grower of caudiciform succulents and mesembs. I don't really grow cacti (very often).

Re: Unknown succulent
AKA Prepodesma orpenii, a monotypic genus. It's less seasonally sensitive than most Aloinopsis and can handle summer watering - it comes from a summer rainfall area in the Northern Cape, is fairly hardy and opportunistic, and frequently flowers between spring and summer. Shares its calcareous habitat with Lithops aucampiae, Nananthus vittatus and Titanopsis calcarea, amongst other mesembs.

Interesting info, thanks

Re: Unknown succulent
Rabiea ?difformis which is a summer grower. It lacks the glaucous nature to the leaves that one would expect on Prepodesma. I wonder if Topsy agrees?
