This Astrophytum myriostigma v. quadricostatum seems to be recovering from some damage a few years ago

I have damaged plants like this, mostly succulent survivors I wonder why I keep them but I do, part of the family and I just turn the damage side away, this one is a bit worse will you ever top it ? .
