My Setiechinopsis mirabilis flowered !

Post by MalcolmP2 »

My S. mirabilis made it into 'open' flower 'mode' on its second attempt, yea!, although not as wide open as some pics that I have seen on the web.

Terry identified a bud (that I had high hopes of) as aborted,,,, he was right it has not developed :( !
However I have spotted another bud that I think is looking good.
So the question is : how should I now treat the plant to avoid this one aborting ?
Full sun / part shade/ bright window but no direct sun ?
Keep it watered or restrict watering ?
Or in other words, what are the usual causes of buds aborting ?
All advices gratefully received :). Thanks.

Abortion of buds is something that sometimes happens with plants. It often occurs as a result of change in conditions, as for instance happens when you buy it from somewhere. So just keep doing everything as you have done it so far; no changes.

(tu) Thanks, will do.

Interesting, this latest flower although closed up, has not keeled over and wilted yet, two days after. The first one drooped the morning after.

'Tis a short-lived wonder.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Doth amuse the whole family much, as well. Not least because of all that energy for a one night stand.
In your earlier topic you noted its fragrance,,,, and I am such a dumbo I totally forgot to snif mine :duh: Oh well, maybe next time !

This is our third of the night flowering kind, the others are a cereus type
(see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=168137&p=277323#p277285)
and an Echinopsis subdenudata

I have friends who are "not amused" (change of hysterical character) by the fragrance of Germolene

My little Setiechinopsis forest is blooming, the flowers lasting well into the morning today, but having lost their delicious smell!
