Rather strange to see areoloes on the tips of the petals on this Echinocereus rigidissimus!

Wow, very interesting! They have a very spiney flower tube but they shouldn't be on the tip of the petals! :grin: Does this plant always do that, or is it a peculiarity this year?

I've not noticed it do this before. Like you say, there are often spines on the tubes of the flowers...
