Places to visit near Heathrow

Post by Chris in Leeds »

Hi all
I might have to take my other half to London for some training (Shepherd's Bush area)
And wondered if there is anywhere interesting nurseries etc near that side of London or would it be a case of seeing if anyone is at Kent cacti on the day
And any help with other details of the journey PM me please (congestion area, places to stay for one night etc)
Any help appreciated thanks

Well, Kew or the gardens at RHS Wisley would be the obvious places for a great horticultural day out, but not if you are intent upon buying cacti. Since the plants are labelled, they are wonderful places to learn more.

If no-one is around at Kent Cacti, then Charles Darwin's house is not far away ...

Best wishes,

Chris - I find viamichelin https://www.viamichelin.co.uk/

reliable as to distances, alternative routes and timings.

It really is very easy to use the route planning.

Hi Chris, had you thought of Ottershaw Cacti near Chertsey? I've never been there but they do well at RHS shows, the website looks good and it's much closer than Kent Cacti. I think Heathrow to Chertsey might be about 15 miles, Heathrow to Kent Cacti, probably nearer 50.

It appears that Ottershaw nursery only has "open days" and not generally open to the public, but might be worth a phone call if you want to go: https://www.ottershawcacti.com/events
