Sempervivum

Post by Eric Williams »

Hi all, my daughter sent for collection of mixed sempervivam, as she was impressed with the blurb, but mostly with the picture. What arrived was a terrible collection of plants, very wet and squashed into a box many sizes too small. One or two had even started to rot. They had been squeezed downwards

so much that the rosettes we're the same shape of mushrooms? She has asked for a refund. Can anyone recommend a decent supplier. Thanks. See pics of plants and advert. Cheers

I imagine their ease of propagation makes them a prime candidate for fly-by-night succulent start-ups. That said, the plants will recover very quickly - don't throw them away if they refund without asking for their return.
http://www.fernwood-nursery.co.uk/ are reputable and have been selling Sempervivum for decades.

The image is a stock photo, probably not even taken by the seller.

Thanks Phil, I really like the site you recommended, and have already sent an order. Cheers. Chris, well well you learn something every day. It's not legal to use other people,s pics is it ?, if that's what has happened. Cheers. Ps, if she does not get any feed back from the seller, I might just name them. Thanks both.

No, you aren't supposed to use other people's images, but if the image in question is from a stock site then it is usually OK providing you've paid for it. Also see Forum Rules 6b  .

Most likely they have just pinched it from Google Images or more likely Pinterest - which is full of stolen pictures.

eBay and such like sites are full of stock pictures, so you've probably seen them with out realising that's what they are.

Thanks Chris, re rule 6b, I was wrong to put the original photo on this thread then. Sorry about that, as I say you learn some thing every day. Thanks for pointing it out as I was unaware of this. Cheers

No, you aren't supposed to use other people's images, but .....
Surely the main point is that images should be reasonably accurate depictions of the items on sale. And items should be in condition expected.

I would have no hesitation in naming and shaming. There are too many of these fraudulent suppliers around.

Hi Aiko, no I think it was next day delivery, but perhaps it was in their store for a while. Re Rule 6, perhaps a mod may be kind enough to to remove the offending pic ? Thanks
