Well I've de-potted it and got as much compost off as I can but I can't see how they split up. :???: :???:

I doubt you'ld get it past a judge. I got pooh-poohed for a similar picture of a Conophytum clump.

Did it start off as one of those Dutch multi-seedling pot-fulls?

I don't know. It was a raffle prize, pretty much as you see it now.

I'll have to try and take a picture of it upside down - it won't come apart without serious damage!

These are various pictures of the underside of the "plant" I cannot tease them apart without breaking something, so it is either one weird plant, or there are multiple stems that have got wrapped around each other.

FWIW I think these are separate seedlings, no evidence of where one "offsets" from another. They have been growing together for so long that separating them will do a lot of damage! Nice potful of friends!

Did you get your Weetabix this morning?
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Indeed, I agree.
But, a judicious knife and allowing to callous over before repotting will work fine for something like bocasana, imo.
