Tylecodon identity

Post by D^L »

HI all,
Any guidance on the identity of this Tylecodon? I got it from Ralph and I think I know the answer but I'd welcome confirmation!
A stunning beautiful succulent, outplays all those cacti

Hi David,

I've compared this to my photos. There are only two possible candidates: T. ventricosus (mine are coming to the end of their flowering) or T. striatus (none of mine have started yet). Yours looks very much like T. striatus. Some samples are disappointing and do not form much of an expanded base. It needs ruthless pruning to keep in a half-decent shape, so is becoming well represented in cultivation. However, it is an easy plant for novice growers to learn about how to treat winter-rainfall succulents.

Best wishes,
Derek Tribble

Yes, l agree with Apicra, easy to grow, as long as we know it's a Winter grower. Cuttings are also quite easy to strike when done at correct time of year. Cheers

Thanks. T. striatus is what I was thinking of. It certainly roots easily and does need pruning.
Yes it was labelled but that was between 1 and 2 decades ago! Somewhere along the road it has got lost
