Droopy Pereskiopsis

Post by Echinocactus123 »

Hello,
I recently ordered a Pereskiopsis, it has arrived but it is very pale and droopy. Does anybody know what is wrong and how to fix it?
Thank you in advance.

It's been grown in dimmer light than is ideal. It'll be fine in a few weeks.

Perez, you can treat this one differently from other cacti. They love water, heat, and humidity. I would cut a few inches off the top, wait a day or two, then strike it in compost and grit. If possible cover it withe small plastic tent. If you can see the water produced in the tent due to humidity you have the optimum conditions. AnTTun is the expert on this. Cheers

Thanks all, I will try it out. I also heard their compost doesn't need to be quite as well drained as most, is this true?

It's better to treat them as tropical plant then cactus.
If it is too hot(over 35C ) and dry,it will switch to cactus mod. become droopy and shade it's leaf.
It can survive drought like any other cactus but the growth won;t be good.
Provide enough water and moderate sun it will thrive.

One thing worth noting is, if it is elongate it will loss spine and easier to handle when grafting.
Controlled elongate can be very helpful.
From taiwan. hot humid subtropical island.
Pachypodium grow like weed here.
(not really, but u get the idea hot sunny rainy)

I'd go with Tina's advice, cut the top off and put it in a glass of water on a bright window-sill. They're not easy to grow well in a hot cactus greenhouse but with heat and high humidity they'll grow like the brambles I'm trying to get out of the garden.

I grow my cuttings in a largish plastic box with lid, inside I have a small plastic dish with water in it. Humidity check reads 85%. They love it lol. Ps must try Tina,s idea. Cheers
