Finally got a Gymno!

Post by Greenlarry »

Saw this cactus in Wilkos, 3 quid, and wasn't sure what it was. I've been hoping to get a Gymno for years and lo and behold it is one. And it has flower buds!
Now the question is its quite pot bound (what a surprise) but is it too late to repot it?

Nice plant too. It's never too late to repot, especially when bought from a stores, as they are in variably in pure peat. I have a friend who does all his re potting in Winter, when there is a little more time.

Yes, definitely pot it on asap. This will give it a chance to put on some more growth before the dormant period and with a bit of luck the bud will develop further and give you a rewarding flower.

Growing a mixed collection of cacti & other succulents; mainly smaller species with a current emphasis on lithops & conophytum.
